Hooking

November 30, 2009

A lot of golfers solve their problems from hooking by opening the clubface a little more or opening the stance. When the tendency of a beginning golfer is to whip the ball into a push right off of the face, they’ll compensate by closing the clubface. when the clubface stays closed through impact, a hooking problem will usually ensue. Closing the clubface is fine to prevent a slice or push, but the stance needs to be adjusted to accommodate the closed face, and the clubhead still has to release appropriately through impact. Hooking the ball out of situations where obstructions stand between the player and the target can be really effective in dropping strokes, but must be practiced diligently.
